For 6 years, I have been part of the LoRa journey and have personally seen both the excitement of new ideas and the hard lessons that come with a growing technology.
I traveled around 20 countries and met with over 100 customers in the last few years. Their work showed me the diverse applications of LoRaWAN technology and I saw firsthand how they use IoT. I met farmers, engineers, city planners, and entrepreneurs, and each person described IoT from their daily reality. Their field is different, but they all had one thing in common. They trusted RAKwireless solutions for years. They showed me what IoT really means when it is part of their daily life.
I believe that learning always happens in the field. I visited many countries in 2023 and each trip helped me see what makes IoT truly work. In one place, a farmer used LoRaWAN to save water and protect his crops. In another, a city engineer used it to make roads safer through smart lighting. I also met a small company that integrated hundreds of devices across rough terrain without using any cables. Each person used IoT in their own way, but all shared the same goal. They wanted things to work better and last longer with less effort.
At the start of 2023, I began to think more deeply about the future of IoT and the challenges it faced. Around that time, I came across a post by Matt Hatton that said,
“IoT vendors will verticalise, that is becoming increasingly apparent. And it’s much needed.”
His words stayed with me because I had already seen this change take place in the field. Every industry spoke a different language and had different priorities. The success of IoT depended on how well it could fit into those unique needs. That idea of verticalisation showed me something clear. IoT would only grow stronger when we help people see it through their own domain and not through technical labels.
I began to see a pattern during these trips. Most people who work with IoT do not care about technical terms. They only care about what it can do for them. They want to know if it can help reduce costs, save energy, or make their system better than before. They also want to know what others have already done so they can learn from their examples before starting their own projects.
That idea stayed with me. I thought about it for a long time. We have so many customers around the world who have created strong solutions with RAKwireless devices. They have already solved many problems that new users face every day. These lessons are often missing from the generic use cases you find online. This is why I wanted a way to bring all those real stories together in one place so that anyone could learn from them easily.
That is how the Use Case Selector began!
We built it to make IoT more understandable for everyone. It helps users see how they can use IoT in real life across different industries. This selector will help people find examples that match their purpose because it is easier to understand a system and feel more confident about it when you see how it works in real life.
While creating the Use Case Selector, I wanted it to reflect how people actually think. Engineers think by problems. Business owners think by outcomes. City planners think by scale. Farmers think by results. So we designed the filters to match those natural thought patterns.
The Industry filter shows how IoT fits into large categories like buildings, agriculture, cities, and factories.
The Technical Requirement filter helps users find use cases that solve issues like coverage, power, or mobility.
The Deployment Environment filter shows whether a project works indoors, outdoors, or across both.
Each of these filters came from real discussions with customers who asked us the same simple question in different ways:
What can IoT really do for me?
The Use Case Selector is our way to answer that question clearly. It shows that IoT is not about complex systems or big words. It is about people who solve real problems with small and smart tools.
When I look back, I see that this project came from the same spirit that started RAKwireless. We always wanted to remove barriers and make technology easier to use. The Selector continues that idea. It is not just a showcase of what we have done. It is rather a reflection of what our community has built and learned together.
Each use case you see here is a story of effort, patience, and creativity. It is proof that IoT works when it is simple and made for real needs. I hope that this platform helps others see what is possible and inspires them to build their own success stories.
That is why we built the Use Case Selector,
~ to connect people, ideas, and real solutions in one simple place!
